Help with Freespace 2
Hi i'm new! (PS my english sucks)

ive installed freespace 2 yesterday and Ive got 2 problems:

1- freespace 2 can't read my joystick. i use an old microsoft model (4 buttons, POV/HAT and acceleration). what must i do?

2- in Fred 2 i tryed to create map with a colossus and a sathanas and lots of fighters.

a- the mega ships dont shoot their super lasers.

b- enemy fighters after destroying all my allies (100 enemies vs 40 allies) they don't try to kill me. ehm... they're so slooow and they stand in in a point until i move to they. want a battle like those of star wars with fighting along the mega ships hulls. what must i do?

PS: can i change the parameters of the game? i want all fighters, missiles at the double of their velocity and blasters at 3/4 times more.
ah.. i forget... i want that any kind of fighetr/bomber explode when crashes with another ship.

and... what must i do to set ALOT of fighters coming out a mega ship?

1) Try compatibility mode if you have XP. Might help. Does it appear in the launcher when you press Detect available joysticks?
2 a) I hope you know what SEXPs are (read the Fred tutorial if you don't)
You need Beam-Free and Beam-Free-All. The first SEXP allows one beam turret to fire, the second allows all on one ship.
b) Did you give them an order to destroy you/your wing?

PS: yes, you have to modify the tables or make new weapons and put them on your ships.

Last one: Just set the fighter arrival place to be near the fighterbay of a ship (Ship/Wing properties, lower left part of the window, arrival properties IIRC). But don't let too much fighters come out at the same time, most ships can handle only 4 fighters at a time.

Well knn seems to have done most of my job for me :)

I will add that many FREDders seem to go though a stage of trying to make huge Battle of Endor style missions. I'm not going to say that you should or shouldn't but be aware of the rather massive pitfalls of trying :)

ok thx is all working. except for SEXP and the superlasers. i'm a bit dumb in that kind of things -_-''

You did use the beam-free-all SEXP, right? Without that no capital ships will fire their beams.

To use the beam-free-all SEXP, just create a new SEXP in the event in which your capital ships arrive (if there is no event, create one) and put in beam-free-all. Then you'll have to put in which ships you're freeing the beams on.

(I'm new to FREDing myself, though I've never had this problem. If my explanation is unclear or screwed-up, all I can say is: "oops".) :rolleyes:

Do the walkthrough. It really is worth it.

The time you spend doing it will teach you about as much as twice the time spent fiddling with FRED trying to get things to work :)

Wow, that really brings me back to the olden days...when every FREDding problem could be solved with "beam-free-all" rather than "run a debug build".
