Multi Player Option Question...
I've noticed that in FRED under Mission Spec, you can adjust a player respawn option between the values of 0 and 99.  When I run tests on a team vs team multi player game with this option set on anything higher then 1, results come in with no player respawning.  Am I doing something wrong, this a bug, or a code limitation?

I'm relieved to hear you say that because this would have totally narfed my maps and interest in working with Multi player support.

What's the latest FRED version (could you provide URL please)?

To be honest I really can't honestly reccomend running anything through the most recent CVS builds of FRED. I've seen them choke on :v:'s missions.

I use this build of FRED but get the most recent builds of FS2_Open from this thread. (Well actually I compile my own builds but they are pretty much the same as the ones posted there).

Odd. I've done exactly the same thing and had no problems. Which build are you using?

Obviously, I'm doing something really stupid, because I just made a brand new map and I ain't finding a respawn option in-game.  Here's the map I used.  Please tell me what I'm doing wrong: http://xenthorious.game-host.org/TestRespawn.fs2

BTW, as nice as that new FRED version is, it's giving me TONS of problems with multi player support.  Mainly, it keeps making maps that cause FS2 build 367 to wine about IFF issues.

Did you get the very latest version or the one I said that I use? Cause it should be from before Goober added the IFF changes that are the cause of that problem.

I'm not going to have much time to test this mission this week I'm afraid (I'll barely have enough time to check HLP in fact) but remind me on Friday if you haven't heard back from me.

The answer to your question is no, I used the one you gave me.  However, after downloading and running the latests and greatest, I found myself in a new problem.  The new FRED2 crashs on load.  fred2_open_d-20060301.exe, ModName: ogldriver.dll

Nevermind.  I found out the crash was being created by the edimensional 3d glasses that use the ogldriver.dll file. Removing the process from memory allows FRED2 to work.  I haven't tried the spawn setup yet, so give me a few.

Okay, I just tried to make a single player map using build Fred2_open_r-20060301.  I attempt to play the single player map on FS2 build fs2_open_367.  I get a debug spill of IFF issues, and get an ingame message telling me the map failed to load.

Not surprising. You're trying to load the mission in a version of FS2_Open that is over 6 months older than the build of FRED that you used.

You should always use a build of FS2_Open that is as old or newer than the version of FRED you used. The other way round is pretty likely not to work.

I feel like I'm going around in circles now.  You gave me the latest build for FS2_Open here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,38448.0.html

Then you gave me the latest build for Fred2 on this thread. 

Now you're telling me that the latest build of Fred2_Open is 6 months ahead of FS2?  This means my problems can't be fixed until someone releases a newer version of FS2_open!

It is rare these days, that builds of FSO and FRED do not get released at the same time.  In fact, if any, FSO builds are more common than FRED builds.  If you go to the Source Code Forums, then to the Recent Builds subforum, you'll find a sickied thread called "CVS Builds" or something.  Builds in that thread typically get released in several flavours.  Standard FSO, Standard FRED, Inferno FSO, Inferno FRED, as well as alternate versions of all 4 of these, but configured for better performance under more modern processors, typically labelled as "optimized" or "P4".  The last round of these to be released was on the 1st of this month, though they are hardly bug-free.

What I gave you there was a link to the latest official release build of FS2_Open. Due to some strangeness at the time with the code an official build of FRED2_Open was never released (which is a pity because it causes problems like this).

Official builds are quite rare now. We only seem to get one twice a year or so.

On the other hand we get unofficial beta-testing builds every few days and the version of FRED I gave you is one of these unofficial testing builds. What you need to do is get hold of the equivalent version of FS2_Open.
