Re: The Pirate Bay raided?
This whole TPB stuff is hilarious. The Swedish police are just trying to look like they're doing thier job. They'll look on the servers and find nothing but .torrent files which are totally legal under Swedish law.
At the end of all this TPB can quite easily claim compensation, whoopsee!

They are just desperately trying to appease their American masters.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Their page says they'll be back in a day or two. Apparently, they're moving servers to a different country/countries. It's good to know that, even though they would have easily been replaced, they're going to fight the MPAA/RIAA/Man.

So they decided that having their servers in a country that is an American vassal state isn't such a good idea after all.........

Re: The Pirate Bay raided?
Yeah, I saw that too, apparently, they already had a backup, possibly in another country, already in place. Which is yet more egg on the RIAA's face, since not only will the raid most likely be deemed illegal, but they've basically used the money it cost to raid that as Free Advertising for the Pirate Bay, thanks to the coverage this got.

Like I said, pointless waste of money doing it this way....

This is exactly the same thing that happened back in the Napster days, file sharing was pretty much unknown to the general public back then, it got smashed and bam, now everyone is doing it. Whoops.

Re: The Pirate Bay raided?
It's also great that PirateBay will be entitled to damages is a Swedish court finds that the siezure was illegal, which may well happen. How awesome would that be, if the MPAA/RIAA had to pay PirateBay a settlement in the end.

I would have thought that at this point they wouldn't have any feet left. They must be well into their shins by now.

And theres the first backlash from the online community. You don't solve these problems by pissing off a massive Internet community, you do it by taking into account that they are a massive Internet community.

Why would he do that?

Re: The Pirate Bay raided?
Probably because he was being leant on by the RIAA.

This could actually have been one of the biggest political mistakes in Europe since the Poll Tax to be honet, a government literally tripping over it's own feet to please the RIAA may well have damaged itself massively in the political arena.

Beacue its illegal here in sweden for an minister to try and influence  for example the police to prioritize individual cases such as this one with pirate bay.

Just some stats...

... here are some reasons why TPB is down sometimes - and how long it usually takes to fix:

Tiamo gets *very* drunk and then something crashes: 4 days

Anakata gets a really bad cold and noone is around: 7 days

The US and Swedish gov. forces the police to steal our servers: 3 days

.. yawn.

Brilliant. It's a shame the old torrents before the seize no longer work though. :(
