Fish oil as a repalcement for Ritalin?
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

From article:

(Dealing with Ritalin) The controversial drugs can cause heart problems, dizziness and insomnia and have been blamed for the deaths of nine children in the UK and dozens more in the US.
OOPS.

I was put on Ritalin way back when I was a hyperactive lad.  I must say that **** had the opposite effect of what it was supposed to.  Hated the stuff.  These days I've learned to deal with it and it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. :)
The fish oil sounds pretty interesting.

I seem to recall being put on something, Dexamphetamine or some such thing, straightened me out quite a bit, come to think of it. No real side effects I noticed, and I did actually feel a lot calmer when I was drugged up.

...Plus, I could sell the pills behind the toilets at school at a hugely inflated price... :nervous: ...kidding

Well, if fish oil is tested to be a safer yet effective treatment, I do not see why not giving it a try.

Re: Fish oil as a repalcement for Ritalin?
Just watch though...It'll never be approved by the FDA.

Official Reason:  There are too many unknown side effects.   More testing is required.

What That Means:  This drug is highly effective and cheap.  It poses too great a threat to the profits of huge drug companies, so we aren't going to approve it, even though it would improve the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people.  Long live the almighty dollar!  Huzzah!!!

D'oh...That'll teach me to do my research before I shoot my mouth off...

My dislike (putting it mildly) of drug companies sometimes gets ahead of me.  But I still think once people get wind of this, the drug companies are gonna do everything in their power to discredit it...
