Several questions about the main campaign
I've just finished the main FS2 campaign and i'm wondering about a few things i can't answer myself.

In the last mission i have to reach the jump node in order to enter subspace before the supernova incinerates me. Now, why can't i jump there as i've done every single mission before (searching for a logical reason here)? Also, what happens after this event? I just get the video featuring the supernova and that's it. Is this supposed to be the end?! No debriefing, nothing. :( It doesn't even make a difference if i don't reach the jump node in time.

Now, after doing pain-in-the-ass escorting missions, recovering a device (to contact Shivans) which doesn't really play a role in this campaign (this really bothers me as i can think of several ways of using it to our advantage), disabling a Juggernaut only to realize that there are 80 more, and then the unknown end - all that leaves me with a bad feeling.

Unless someone can explain all that to me, i have to say it was a poor campaign. Is FS Port better? I consider playing this campaign now.

Go into your Freespace 2 folder and look for endpart2a.avi and endpart2b.avi.

Rename them to endprt2a.avi and endprt2b.avi. (notice the disappearing letter a).

That will give you the proper ending cutscenes.


As for jumping out. You can jump out only when inside the node after Command tells you to get to the node and get out. You have to get there about 10-15 seconds before the supernova or you're unlikely to make it out in time.

The reason why you can't jump out anwhere other than the node should be obvious. Where would you go? If you jump out through the node you'll be able to travel through subspace to Vega because your ship is fitted with an expensive intersystem jump engine in this mission. If you jump out anywhere else it would be an in-system jump leaving you in Capella facing the supernova. Apart from the Vega node the only way in or out of Capella is the Gamma Draconis node. Which was held by Shivan forces at the time.
