You can also try this...
Make a backup point from your system... It's not big deal, and if something goes awry, ya'll have a fallback solution anyways.
1. Uninstall any individual codec packages you may or may not have - such as DivX bundle, XVid bundle and what ever you may have installed onto your machine in order to get some random video file to work.
2. Grab and install
ffdshow.
It's a good decoding filter and supports most out of many video file formats. You should at least try it, because I for one have never actually had any problems with minimizing or otherwise with cutscene playback.
Generally, I use VLC player for watching videos in themselves, but ffdshow is good to have in case someone prefers Windows Media Player or WinAmp, or if you want to watch Xvid-coded videos through fs2_open engine...

In other words, it works on my computer like the toilet of a train.
