I've played alot of games online before but some, mainly gamespy, come up with this message:

Proxy or Firewall Detected.

GameSpy Arcade has detected that your computer's internal IP address (192.***.***.***) is different than its external IP address (82.**.***.***).  This may be caused by firewalls, a NAT proxies, or other unusual network configurations and may prevent you from hosting a game.  Please see our Firewall Guide for further information.  You can access it by choosing "Help with GameSpy Arcade" from the Help menu.

Does anyone know how 2 keep both IP's the same, i share an internet connection with 2 other computers, thanks for the help!

Basically it works like this. Your ISP assigns you a public IP address (the 82.x.x.x one). Meanwhile each individual PC on your network has a private class address (192.x.x.x). The PCs can contact anyone on the LAN using this address. However this address can not be used on the internet.

You don't say whether you use a router or something like MS's Internet Connection Sharing to share the internet connection but basically the same sort of thing is going on.

Something on the private network asks for something from the internet. This goes to the router/ICS box. The box remembers who sent the original message but sends it out using the public IP address. When it gets a reply it remembers who sent out the original request and sends it back to the right computer.

The problem is that many games can't deal with NAT. They expect the address of the public IP address to be the address the computer is actually on. There are ways around this but you'll need to explain your configuration a little better before anyone can give you that much help. It's no use explaining port forwarding etc if you're using ICS.

Find your router in the list on PortForward. You should be able to find a step by step guide for your router if you're lucky or at least find clues on what to do by looking at a similar make and model.
