Scandisk and Windows XP

My comp has started to have a bad habit. It can crash on me, any time, anywhere. Notepad has just crashed  :mad: on me in the most unexpected moment. I am planning a complete re-install soon, but first, I would like to know something:

Is it possible to avoid my computer starting with Scandisk? If it crashes and I abandon scandisk, it will still demand that I run through all the files at the next reboot. It's not a serious problem, I can simply press ESC and quit scandisk, but standing in front of the computer just to do that is tiring. So, is there a way to stop scandisk from running at reboots?

Yes it is, just whack space or something else.............
Although i reccomend a disk scan  and defrag every 3>4 months....

I scanned my disk at least a dozen times recently, of course with the scandisk that starts with Windows XP. I cannot run scandisk in any other way in XP, if there is an "advanced" version of scandisk in XP, I will surely run through it.

Defragmentation doesn't sound to be a bad idea, although I am not sure my comp won't crash doing so. :p

check to make sure your memory doesn't have problems. use a memory tester program like memtestx86

It's always been like that. Just tell it to do it the next time you restart, then simply restart your computer. Scandisk will takeover when it boots.

There is no scandisk in XP. Scandisk is a utility that runs on windows ME, 98 and earlier systems.

The utility that runs on XP is called 'chkdsk'

I made a Google search for that, but all that turns up is a bunch of links to forum threads. Is that software freeware?
