Well, we've got a Nodewars IRC, a sectorgame IRC, and once wasn't there a HLP IRC? Well, those are all well and good for dicussions, but how about ine specifically for FreeSpace, and any modgroups who needed a meting place? New to IRC? Not a problem. Here's an0n's instructions (modified for this case):

• Save the file to your hard-disk
• Run mirc615.exe
• Follow the installation instructions
• Run mIRC
• Type a username/nick in the appropriate text-box
• Click Okay
• Type (in the Server window): /server irc.gamesurge.net
• Type: /join #FreeSpace2

EDIT: Never mind.  Here's how:

Go to your Connection Manager > IRC, then type in the server anme in the IRC server box.

Obvious in hindsight.

oh, and incase you end up needing it; its port 6667

I recommend xchat (http://www.xchat.org) over mirc. Xchat is open source and is a pretty sensible client.

By the way, there is a #hardlight channel at irc.sorcery.net. Not many people use it though.

Better channel is #fs2source at irc.maxgaming.net u should join it from built in IRC chat at SCP site here: http://scp.indiegames.us/e107_plugins/irc/irc.php
