Multiple missing files possibly causing CTD?
Allrighty... So I'm the new gal, 'round these parts. Nice to meet ya' folks.  :D

I'm havin' some rather strange problems with FSO and MediaVP. Basically, when I start up using MediaVP I get a slew of 'warning' messages along the lines of:

Of course, there's the option to hit 'no' and continue on with loading the game, which seems to work. It allows me to get into the game, and to the main menu. I'm even able to make it thru the training simulator missions. But without fail, once I hit the first actual mission: "Surrender, Belisarius!" (sm1-01.fs2), the game CTDs.

I'm currently running FSO using 3.6.9 RC6, with the 3.6.9 MediaVP and the 710 patches.
My graphics drivers are the latest version of the Catalyst drivers.

System Specs:
Athlon XP 2600+ (Barton Core)
1GB RAM
Radeon 9800 PRO
Creative SBAudigy SE

 Is this a problem anyone else has seen, or is there just some really stupid and obvious mistake I'm making here?

That's odd. I don't get those errors with the same setup. Are you using the ZETA Media VPs (i.e the ones from this thread).


Ah! Did some checking. Yellow_Glow is only available as a tga. Open the launcher and turn on Enable jpg/tga textures. That will get rid of the missing file errors at least. That's probably not the cause of the crash you're getting though. When exactly in the mission do you get the crash? Delete your errorlog.txt file and give me the first 5 lines of it when it regenerates after the crash.

Hurray! The option change did fix the slew of error messages, however, it's still crashing at the same spot. That being, as the mission is loading before it even reaches the greeting from Admiral Petrarch/Breifing.
I *am* using the ones from the thread you linked, yes, as well as the patches that are there.

FS2 3.6.9 RC 7 went up yesterday. I suggest trying that.
