Question concerning Proving Grounds mission....
Something that I really have to know...

How do you take down the SCv Tiamat?

I know the debriefing says to keep it in sensor range, but even when I do that, the Aquitaine is never quite able to finish her off (Tiamat usually leaves with hull integrity between 6%-15%).

Is there something special you have to do?

The GTVA sure knows how to launch feint attacks. You have the Colossus with her engines shut off, her battle group (all three ships) who apparently had problems with their weapon reactors, and a motley crew of fighters. No wonder the Bastion's escorts got decimated.

Its' difficult. Take the hull as far down as you can while the Aquitaine is still in system, and make sure it doesn't lose any beam cannons

Some people say that EMP missiles have the "Big Ship" tag... I don't have FS2 installed so I couldn't say, you could try though.

Just looked it up: the EMP missiles do not have the "Big Ship" tag.

Oddly enough, I’ve used EMP missiles to disable the flack guns on aeuolus Cruisers in "The Sicilian defence"

Anyone want to try this and see if I'm not crazy or something?
Come on now, be honest. Wouldn't you all rather listen to your hairdressers than Hercules? Or Horatius? Or Orpheus? All those old bores! people so lofty they sound as if they s**t marble! - Mozart, Amadeus

They have some weird effects... they probably did, but won't do it consistently.

I've used them to get the Stealth fighters (Zeta) to target the Aquitaine instead of the Oberon, made that pare of the mission a breeze since Subach and Tempests don't do **** to a Hecate.

Do you really get anything for protecting the oberon? Medals, a pat on the back, one of those foxy beta chicks?  ;7

More enjoyment from the game... maybe.

Generally, the only thing the Oberon is useful for is to buy time. The Shivan bombers will go for the Oberon first before the Aquitaine.

They see it as taking out the Aquitaine's escort.

We see it as cannon fodder. :)
