I have downloaded FS2 with FS open 3_6_5 by BT, with the torrent obtained from isohunt.com.
After installation, the game run smoothly and nicely. (I'm not a coder and I'm new to FS2.)

But after rebooting my computer, when I use window file explorer to open my DVD-rom, all the file's icons were changed to the FS2SCP's logo!!.

I immediately uninstall FS2 and FS_open, but the problem persisted.
But it only affect the DVD-rom. The icons remained normal in other drives.  I have scanned my computer with spyware doctor, window defender, NOD32 antivirus which doesn't help.

Does my computer infected?
What should I do?
I've also tried to delete all related registry by regedit, but since I'm not quite familiar with the registry things, I can only delete those labelled as "freespace2" something.

Welcome to HLP! Exits are to the right and left. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Flamethrowers are conviniently located under your seats, however, due to the recent funding cuts, a $3.5 million donation is required to obtain a flamethrower with a full load of napalm in it. If you do not wish to make a donation, your flamethrower will remain filled with water. If you don't wish to donate and still want a working weapon, you'd have to try the weapons locker. However, only HLP Admins, a God, or a Hyperintelligent shade of Blue can open the lock, so you'd have to break in. If you find yourself inside a ventilation shaft and you catch a glimpse of a Shivan, you don't need to worry... much. It's just Carl, and you have two choices with how you want to deal with him:
    1. The first possible course of action is getting one of the weapons from the afore-mentioned weapons locker, and trying to ward off Carl by threatening him with the weapon. Be advised that many of the weapons in the weapons locker are covered with the blood of people who thought it a good idea to break into the weapons locker and use the procured weapon to ward off Carl. So, please, if you decide you want to choose this course of action, choose one of the already-bloody weapons, so you don't get blood all over one of the clean ones.
   2. Your second course of action when you see Carl is to throw your lunch to him and hope he isn't hungry. This is the better option.
   As a final note, please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by Freespace Fanboys. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch.



First of all, you installed an old version, so there's your first problem. You can install the newest version here (also contains links to retail downloads).

Second of all, could you post a picture of what you're talking about? You're not being very clear.

It's not infected.  This is just an icon problem.  Try the "Rebuild Icons" option in TweakUI in the Control Panel.

EDIT: Anyone who wants to have more control over their windows system should be very familiar with the registry, the command prompt, and the creating and use of .BAT files. If you're good with these three things, you can significantly reduce the time you spend on menial tasks and increase your productivity (or your time goofing off). However, messing with your registry can do HORRIBLE things to your computer, so if you're not sure of your skills, get a book like this one. It shows you how to do most of the stuff in tweakui manually, as well as many things tweakui can't do.

I've tried TweakUI's "rebuilt icon" function. It works initially and return all abnormal icons back to its original form.
But after I reboot the system, the problem's back again.
(The attached picture 100_1693 is the appearance of the "infected" icons of my dvd-rom drive in the window explorer. 100_1693 is the appearance after "rebuilt icon" by TweakUI. The other drivers/harddisk are not affected.)

I'm now downloading the update version of the FS2open.
Will try to install it to see if the problem solved.

First of all, I can't think of ANY reason why FreeSpace 2, developed by Volition Inc., would replace all your icons with the LucasArts logo.

Second of all, I also can't imagine why FreeSpace 2 would need a crack, as it has no product activation at all.

My feeling is that whatever you got from Bittorrent, it's probably not an unaltered copy of FreeSpace 2. Download the ISOs from one of the downloads either here or here, then get instructions on downloading and installing FreeSpace Open here.

However, downloading a clean install of FreeSpace 2 and FreeSpace Open is unlikely to get rid of your problem. Get rid of that DVD, and see if the problem occurs on any other discs in that same drive.

Sorry, I've put in a Star wars empire at war DVD into my DVDrom before I took these pictures. It's not a FS2 CD while taking the pictures.

I know that the logo look similar to LucasArts logo, but its not.  I first saw it as an short cut icon of a link to a FS2open site on the desktop after I installed my downloaed FS2open installer. Please refer to the attached pictures.  The new icons seems to be just covering, not replacing, the original icons.

I've taken another two pictures with my FS2 CD in the DVDrom, also showing the "hacked" change of the icons before and after TweakUI's rebuild icon function.

I'm exhausted after spending whole night efford on solving this, but without any yield........

Finally I figured it out that it's not the problem of FS2scp. It's another software's problem.
Thanks to all who helped and apologized for all inconvenience that I've bought.

But at least now, I know that I can enjoy FS2 without any anxiety!
