Canadian Politics: Liberals have a new leader...how long till the election?
Really :)

It doesn't seem to me that anyone is really happy with Harper's Conservatives at the moment. The folks involved with international trade are upset at the bungling that Harper did with the Chineese, the natives are upset about the deal that the Liberals managed to work out that was canceled, Quebec is Quebec, even big business doesn't like the change to the income trusts taxation...so now that the Liberals have Dion as the new leader.

So how long till a non-confidence motion goes through and we get to vote again?

Spring?  Summer?  Next fall?

probably soon.  the only reason there hasn't been one yet is that the liberals weren't in any position to start a campaign.  but now with their shiny new leader in place, we can look forward to elections in the new year...or at least thats my prediction.

part pf me was rooting for Bob Rae to win, simply so we could have the Rae Days back...those where awesome when i was a kid my dad had the day off (gov employee) and i had no school...twas awesome

My first reaction is: Dion who? Stephane you say? Oh, they elected a chick?

Don't get me wrong, Ignatieff is a little twerp, a Canadian Clintonite, but at least I knew who the hell he was. Even turn-coat Stronach or Papa's Boy Trudeau who have been better from a political perspective.

As for the election: as soon and frequently as possible please. I've potentially got money doing political campaign website so I'm hoping that this beautiful trend of minority governments with a lifespan of a year and a half keeps up. I don't vote, so as far as I'm concerned we can have 'em once a week.

Agreed, it is only a matter of time and a hopeful augury from the pollsters.  If some big-in-the-media controversial issue comes up (or is manufactured) in the spring/summer, the Liberals will probably pounce on it, otherwise I'd guess a fall election.

I'm rooting for another Belinda Stronach defection...maybe to the NDP this time! Or back to the Conservatives. The possibilities are endless. Y'know, the Greens have been looking for a big name candidate to take them out of obscurity.

didn't the Canadian PM speak out about the way the Chinese treat workers ? hardly bungling, more having a little conscience ?

The previous PM's have done this as well...but in a way that didn't piss the Chinese leadership off.  The previous Canadian government is basically responsible for engaging the Chinese in trade and communication.  Many things have changed for the better in China...its still not anything like it is here but I think things were on the right track. You work with them and expect higher standards rather than lambasting them.  I tend to agree with that particular method...it takes longer but you have far more good will and benefits on both sides.
