Alcohol was prohibited because Irish were having fun with it.

Basically every drug that's ever been prohibited was prohibited because the administration didn't like the people who had the most fun with it. In some drugs case I can see why their banned, but I want to know why pot is illegal and tobacco is legal... tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death, from both first and second hand smoke, and pot, other than a few notable side effects, is realitively harmless.

Probably because the harmful effects of tobacco were only noticed after they were taxing it.
