Re: "Returning Home" Project (PLEASE READ)(Story continuation of FS2)
Okay, but do any of them need a writer/storyline? I don't think so, so that means I'm pretty much out of luck. Honestly, that's about the only thing I can do. I just don't have the patience for modeling/mapping (although I am creating a map for another PC game) on this large of a scale. I can't stare at a computer screen clicking everywhere to place, code, and coordinate ships and other objects all day long. My mom had carpal tunnel surgery a couple years ago, and I don't want to end up like that. She couldn't use her hand for several months, which I just could not do. Mm'kay?

Anyway, the GTVA is going to get to Capella via a newly-discovered node in Beta Cygni. This node is discovered in 2387, when the story here is supposed to take place, and is aged to be only a few months old. How such a node could be created without a Knossos device, no one knows. GTVI scientists say that the node is rapidly destabilizing, and will become non-traversable within 17 months. This means that any operation to explore the Capella node must occur within the year, since all available resources to create a Knossos device are going in the effort to stabilize the transit to Sol, and the isolated home planet of Earth.

That a good reason for you? Actually, now that I think about it, I should add this to my script.
Yep. That's right; this just popped off the top of my head. I hadn't exactly thought about that, thanks for reminding me!

Shouldn't this be in the Campaigns forum?

Well, I guess. I'll just leave it here though. So, I'm finishing up the script right now. I'm watching Blade Runner on AMC, so I'll be writing on commercial breaks. Uh oh. It's back on. I'll have to start writing in a while.

Regardless of how you feel on the matter, it's certainly the least you could to do learn how to FRED. It's a bad, bad idea to pin all the FREDing work on recruits, and a tad unfair to stick to the comparatively simply and easy task of making the storyline while delegating what is probably the most difficult part of campaign-making to the rest of your team. Hell, this is ignoring the most glaring reason to learn FRED; it takes a goddamned long time, and the more people you have FREDing the faster you can go.

The most prudent action to take at this point would be to try the advanced tutorial and get cracking with your project, as useful people will be inclined to assist you when they actually see some of your ideas in a playable format.

That's true... I can FRED (barely), but mainly I learned so I could test models. All mods need a dedicated FREDDER to turn your script into playable missions. Once you know the basic limits of FRED you know if you can follow your story as you wrote it or not.

BTW Gman19, if you haven't tried it yet, play the DERELICT campaign that came in the FSOpen install. It's nice and long, has a little of everything, and some shows off "some of the best voice acting in the community."

Once you finish it you know you've been through an experience...
