I got a bunch of mod tools for freespace 1, and none of them work. I have one called vpv viewer from descent.network, that is supposed to allow me to extract all the files for freespace. But whenever I start it up, I get an error "Error code 53 file not found". I installed all the dll files required to run the programs, and have no idea why they wont work

Did you make sure to get the font pack as well?

BTW, why not just get Freespace 2 and get the FSPort for it?

I dont own freespace 2, and the cheapest one I could find on the internet was $37.00 on amazon.com.  I just wanted to fool around with the ships and weaponry in freespace 1.

Frespace 2 is nice and all, but how is that going to help me with my fs1 problems???  All I want is some tools to edit some to the ship and weapons properties.

VPView and notepad would be sufficient in that case.

You will find VPView32 (and version 2.0 of it) with a bunch of other possibly useful tools from this URL:

Download the tools you want, install them, use VPView to extract ship/weapon tables from VP files. Edit them in Notepad, save them in Freespace\data\tables and they should work (provided that you don't b0rk the tables).


I would still get FreeSpace 2 with latest SCP build (3.6.9), graphichs updates and also Freespace Port, which allows you to play the Freespace 1 campaign in the new game engine with new graphics.

Did you install the DM Tools to C:/Program Files? Cause I remember having issues when I tried that but I can't remember what they were.

No thats my problem. Vpv viewer wont work at all, so I cant extract any files.

Did you install the Descent Manager DLL Package (DLLPAK32) on the top of the list?

AFAIK none of the tools work without that installed...

Corrupt download then? Perhaps re-downloading and re-installing would help... Other than that, I can't offer any more help.
