I bought a joystick so I could test missions on another computer.  Worked fine the first time but after that it's hit an miss.  Windows sees it and it tests fine.  Launcher also sees it.  It's when I get into FS2 that it acts like no joystick is connected.  If I move it continuously when starting FS2 and until I get ingame it seems to work.  Is there some setting to force FS2 to see the joystick?

Don't have any other joystick games on this computer.  Registers fine in windows all the time.  It seems to be some kind of timing issue.  As long as the joystick is putting out signals FS2 recognizes it.   If it's just sitting there windows sees it, the launcher sees it but FS2 doesn't.  Not much info with the joystick but from reading the little there is I think there it powers down after 5 seconds of inactivity.  As soon as it's touched again it reconnects to the receiver.  I'm thinking if it's not connected to the receiver at the time FS2 looks for it then the game just ignores it.  It's not a huge deal right now as I don't even have room on my desk for it.  That was why I went with the wireless so I could just put it up out of the way until I'm in mission and no longer need the mouse.  Later when I move this system and get a wireless keyboard it will be an issue though.  Would be nice to be able to play FS2 on my 50" monitor.

I think you're probably exactly right, the stick goes in to auto-off and so the game doesn't see it, but even still you'd think it would be smart enough to pay attention to the base..

Is there any program that came along with the stick that can be used to change the power saving settings of the stick?

What happens if you try the "Force 0" or "Force 1" option in the launcher's Audio/Joystick tab instead of selecting the stick model directly from the list?

I'll give that a try.  You would think that if the launcher can see it then the game should be able to as well.  I've been wanting to launch it in debug mode just to compare moving the joystick and not in the log files.

Go download a demo of some game that uses a joystick, Flight Simulator, Comanche 4, something like that, see if it works there.

Of course I go to test it today and I can't get it to not work.  I did check the settings and there is nothing to change the timeout.  It's nice to see that Logitech includes a ton of spyware on their product CD's now.

I had a similar issue with a non wireless stick that turned out to be due to my USB hub switching itself on and off when unpowered. This might not be a joystick issue at all.

Don't think that is the problem here.  I used to have a regular USB joystick on this machine and never had a problem.  I've also got all power management disabled so it shouldn't be powering anything down.   When I first installed the joystick it worked fine.  Then the next day I went to use in and it was having the problem.  When I popped the CD in to check for options or tools I let it install the driver again.  I'm thinking it will start having the problem again by tomorrow.    Hmmm wonder if charging my cell phone from the USB port could be causing some kind of weird problem.   Might have to try plugging it in and see what happens.


Didn't even get a chance to try that it quit working already.  I checked the log file and it is the same weather it works or not:

Windoze reported 16 joysticks, we found 1


So it's seeing it at load but not ingame.

Have you tried the force 0 and force 1 options in the launcher's joystick section?

Yea they did nothing.  It started working again when I set it to win32 joystick 1 or something like that.  But after trying to fly with the joystick on my leg I gave up anyways.  Never confirmed if this fixed it or not but that option was not there earlier.  If no one else is having a similar problem I'm not even going to worry about it for now.  Just no room to operate a joystick on this desk.  Barely enough to use the mouse.  Heck it's not even a desk it's just my old server stand turned on it's side.

Just an update that w32 joystick 1 option or whatever it was seems to have fixed the problem.
