So I'm in the process of getting a new laptop, and here's the deal. Either I can go for a cheaper deal with HP or something and get a dual-core Intel chip, with a Geforce  Go 7600, or I can go with Alienware and get an SLI rig with dual  Geforce Go 7900, but a (what I think is) single-core AMD Turion chip. Which should I go for?

The Alienware rig:

The HP rig:

Try an ASUS laptop...they have one with a Intel Core Duo and a Go 7800 or something...

Will Alienware build you a custom computer with a Dual core?

I'd personally get a Thinkpad T60p, as they're fairly powerful and are built like bricks. Seriously, I dropped my T30 down a flight of metal stairs, while it was running, and it didn't get a scratch.

The only time I've had one die on me is through liquid spill, which sucked.

But of the two, go Alienware.

why would an SCP error be considered as news? :wtf: *smacks Cobra*It's a feature.

For a liquid spill, immediately flip the laptop upside down.  Do not flip it right-side up, as the liquid collected in the underside of the keys will then go right back in.  Shut it off (unplug, and remove battery), wait for it to dry, (use a blowdryer/heater, but not too aweful hot).  You could look up online how to disassemble your laptop, and do so while it is upside down, to get the keyboard off.
I know, because my dad did this, and the computer repair shop told him this is what he should have done.  The major killer isn't so much the liquid as the sugar in the liquid... ;) of course the liquid doesn't help any.

That wouldn't have helped. the liquid went into the exhaust port for the processor's fan. Instant death.  :sigh:

Oh, and I can already break down a T30 to its component parts, and re-assemble it in working condition. The problem was that I didn't have time to do so.

I did manage to salvage almost the entire computer (the motherboard is shot, but everything else is ok.), so now I have an almost complete set of replacement parts for my current T30.  :)
