So I'm thinking about investing in a joystick (and possible throttle combo) to make my experience a bit richer. The problem is, I run linux and I want to make sure I get something that will, you know, work. I've tried looking around a bit and I haven't seen a list of what people have been able to get working well with fs2_open on linux. I was hoping anyone who's using a joystick in such a situation could post and let me know how it is working for them.

I'm particularly interested in the Saitek X45 right now.

Thanks!

I have a Saitek X52 and everything seems to be working without much efffort, jscalibrator recognizes every single axis and buttons, dunno about Freespace itself but it should be enough. If I get it running I will post a more thorough review.  :D

I used the keymapper to use most of the joystick and it is alright for now, but I was wondering in what files are the values stored. The joystick has a knob for "settings" where button 23-25 are always pressed depending on the " setting" so I was thinking it of using it as a combo so that in setting 1 Button 4 does tagetting, on setting 2 Button 4 does weapon cycling etc. For that it would behave like a shift key so it would have to be a combo.

I have a Logitech "EXTREME 3D PRO" that works out-of-the-box. I'm using kernel 2.6.17-11 with kubuntu to be specific.
