I downloaded the Installer.  Had no problems.
I elected to download everything except for XNIX, MAC, and OSx Files (Didn't think I need them because I am running WinXP).

It seems to have downloaded everything just fine, but when I attempt to run the Launcher, it says that I am missing a DLL file (I don't have the exact file name with me as I am not at the PC) but it appears ot be some kind of OpenGL32.dll file or something.

when I click OK out of the error, the launcher opens anyway.  I changed the video from OpenGL to D3D, then hit apply.  But when I attempt to run the game, the same error comes up.

Any ideas?

What type of video card do you have, this is a common error with older graphics cards, or sometimes when you are not running up to date video card drivers. Try to obtain the latest drivers for your card, if that does not work you may have to upgrade your graphics card. Sorry!

hehe - umm.. its a GeForce 7900GT, 256mb PCIe Card.
It is considerably new, but not Super New.  It has the latest drivers and all windows updates.

Ah then maybe you need to install OpenAL, It's like openGL but instead of a graphics library API is an Audio library API. This is the installer you need (OpenAL 1.1 IIRC is the latest version).  ;)

If this is not it and it still says you are having problems with OpenGL then I'm at a loss??

Cool - Thanks, I will give this a try.
I am not at home right now but when I get home i'll try it and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again!

Another thing, listen to this:  There's three files that sometimes get left floating around the Windows directory from older OpenAL installs that could cause issues with your game after you install the newer version.  If you don't have the new version, it doesn't work at all, but if you do, and have older version files floating around, well, for me at least, it worked intermittently without sound.  Then I found out about the files, deleted them, and it's worked perfectly since...  The funniest thing is I've never installed OpenAL anything until I got FS2.  I have no idea how the old files got in there, except maybe if they were installed with my motherboard drivers or something.

P.S. I just found a post that talks about this, read this: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,37811.msg854644.html#msg854644

To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky!

Looks like it worked.  I was able to load the game no problems this time :-)

Actually, there is one slight problem.
I was playing the FS1 Port, and can't get past the 2nd mission.

Reason being is because I cannot see the asteroids.  My Nav targets them, but there is nothing there.  I can shoot at the targeted asteroid, but its like I am just shooting into space.  I can even fly through where the asteroid is supposed to be.. and nothing happens.

I don't actually see the asteroid until the moment it impacts the Galetea.

And of course, its way too late then.  any ideas?

In the launcher, try turning on "Enable Jpeg/Tga Textures"
