A huge thanks from a noob
I would just like to thank all the members of the SCP and everybody who has contributed over the years in order to keep FS2 alive and looking better than ever.
When it first came out my PC was below spec to run it, and by the time I upgraded it had dropped off the retail radar. Now finally, after all these years I can play it and enjoy every beautifully rendered moment whilst being reminded that I am truly awful at space sims :(

I would like to extend a special thanks to a couple of people for their posts:
First up, WMCoolmon for his input to this thread as I was starting to feel really stupid for being confused about how to upgrade.
Secondly, TheAgent for starting the above, but most importantly for this thread. A fantastic guide IN REAL ENGLISH for noobs who start up without one of the installers.  Top work, you deserve an award for the most useful noob ever!

Once again, thank you to everyone.

You'll get better as you play... it's disorienting at first.

I spent all of the Main Freespace 1 Campaign hardly being able to take out a freighter.

I'm not so sure, I sucked all the way through WC Prophesy too and gave up on X-Wing Alliance!  The only one I've ever been any good at is Elite on my old ZX Spectrum (and then later on my Atari ST) ;)

Re: A huge thanks from a noob
Dont worri when i played the first time FS (which happened to be Fs2 for  a matter of fact) i was so confused i barely managed to survive the first few missions and barely managed to complete it. Even then i had such few kills i was relly embarased when i saw a talk over on the old VBB about ranks in fs2 and just how many kills you actualy had to have in order to be promoted. But keep tryng and pretty soon you cand wait for a cruiser or corvette to show up just so you can gather some more kills and points. I know i am! :D

So bet of luck to you and make sure to get the user made campaigns ! Some of them are a bit harder then  the standard FS campaign but they sure a re a lot of fun! Be sure to get DERELICT, FLAMES OF WAR, Homesick etc. Go over on the campaign forum and get the list of available campaigns.

Re: A huge thanks from a noob
strangely, FS seemed to go great for me.

The reason: I am a natural at computers (and space sims for that matter)... My first space sim where the X-Wing trilogy Demos (I was 10 years old when I played that, an didn't figure out how to recharge lasers). . Then I got intrested, Freelancer came in 2003, that was my first real space sim, and the first time I got away from NFS and Mechwarrior. I played Wing Commander for a while (the kilrathi Saga) and I-Ward then I found the pcgameplay magazine and said something about Freespace 2, I got it from HOTU, and read about the SCP there.

That was a while ago, I never heard of the SCP Installer from turey (When that link came from the SCP forum I found out about Hard-Light Productions) I tried it, but I still prefer setting up the game myself.

Re: A huge thanks from a noob
Like Joshua, i am a natural on computers, also, i just rock at games >) Well most games. There was this one game my dad liked that i never had the patience for. Mind Rover. (sp?) You guys might want to look it up, it was interesting now that i think about it. I was too young then tho.

I completely kicked ass in FS all the way through. I never sucked. Untill i met the remainder of the Muliplayer community, then i sucked, adapted, and became IMHO pritty dam good.

But there was a few people better then me. XerXes and Hafgan were amazing, as well as, who was it Glady, or Orlanth? One of them were top notch as well.

Now that i think of it, sorry this is offtopic, but:
Who remembers Kruas (SP?) The bastard who FF'ed every godam Co op mission? Man he was a pain. Banned from nearly every game out there, lofl.

Sorry, but now that I've been playing for a couple of weeks I find that I too have become truly great.  In fact, I think you'll find that I am [Harry Enfield]"considerably greater than you"[/Harry Enfield].

I considered trying multiplayer, but fear that your fragile egos could not cope with the cans of whoopass that I would open at every opportunity.

I can also get a damn good tune out of my very own trumpet.

Re: A huge thanks from a noob
:wtf: Are you sure about that? I have been plaing this game for quite some time! And I can say that even I have some problems on hard! Well quite a few problems on hard since i do not like to change mi tactics form medium ir easy so to speak. But still. I know that if I go multip[layer i will get mi behind blown to hina before I can even see some of the guys here. But i'm getting better! And they are getting older. Pretty soon I will beome to almighty FS number 1 ranked multiplayer kills player in history!

but untill then I have to figure aout how to get multiplayer up and running :hopping:

AlphaOne, my last post was a complete p**s take at one of the previous posts on here.  I'll forgive you for missing the sarcasm as your english is a LOT better than my Romanian.

I couldn't make it obvious with smileys because I'm at work and the system has somehow stopped me from using them?

Absolutely not.  {Secure channel} Disregard that last statement, pilot.  Your mission as an NTF covert agent is to spam.  You know what to do.
