I am getting crashes to desktop with the game, which would do funny things to the brightness of my desktop and the game. After a few crashes and restarting the game, the system would give me a blue screen, memory dump and a reboot.

I don't have the error message with me now, but I can check it when I get home.

*Counts on his finger*

System?
OS?
Build of the FS_Open exe?
Version of the launcher?
Used flags (features in the launcher)?
Actual error messages?

We need the data, to give you some usable advice. First thing, I would check whether I had the latest version of the launcher, the stable exe build. I would also try a debug build, as they tend to give more verbose error messages.

PS.: This should be in the support forum.

Try selecting the debug build with the launcher and then start the game. If it crashes again then search for 'fs2_open.log' named file (should be in main data dir) and post it here.

Hmm... i tried looking at it but couldnt really see anything too problematic.. Though you seem to have some freespace related disk in the computer.. Though FS Open no longer needs CDs.
Code: [Select]
Searching root 'i:\'
Searching root pack 'i:\root.vp'
Searching root pack 'i:\data\cbanim.vp'
Searching root pack 'i:\data\freespace.vp'
Searching root pack 'i:\data\voc.vp'

But that doesnt seem to be causing the crash... So it crashed on the fourth time you tried the mission?

Oh, I also have FS1 installed and its disc images mounted using Daemon Tools.

The crashes occur after a certain amount of play and seemingly linked to the number of times I reattempt a mission.

You could create EMPTY 'text' file named debug_filter.cfg into the data directory in the main freespace dir (ie. L:\fs2\data\).. (same place as where you probably found the fs2_open.log). And then run the debug again until it crashes. This time open the new (a whole lot larger) fs2_open.log with something capable of handling larger files (like most proper text editors or wordpad) as it tends to kill notepad... And then post only the last ten or so lines from it.

Google up Notepad++ , it should handle the file.
