OK I have the launcher on the desk top, and I have 3.6.9 in the launcher. It loads from the launcher and the screen in the game says that it is in fact 3.6.9, but I see no difference in the game when I have played it, so something is still not right. But at least I am getting closer. The screen shots on the site look fantastic.

does it matter if I have launcher 5.0 rather than launcher 5.5? I seem to have less option than the 5.5 does.

To get the graphical improvements, go to the MOD tab in the launcher, click "Select MOD" and select the "mediavps" folder from the list that appears. Then, go to the "Features" tab and check "Enable specular", "Enable glowmaps" and "Enable environment maps". Now try running the game again, and see if that makes a difference

The graphical improvements are optional, you see, and have to be manually enabled. There are a wide varience in the quality of the systems people are running, and this ensures that even those with older computers can still play the game. I know it's a bit of a bother, but there you have it

[Edit] Oops, overlooked the launcher part. Version 5.5a is definitely a better choice than version 5, though the older version will probably work.

To everyone who stuck with me on this... thank you, thank you, thank you. It is in and it is working. Of course now I have to start to remember how to play the game, but that is the fun part.

Shade that was all I needed to finish thanks.

I think the problem was that it downloaded the program to a different file than "games/fs2." So when I tried to delete the file (fs2 the original) the fs2 open was still there, therefore it would not download it again. So I went back and downloaded the files one at a time directly to the fs2 file. After that I just followed the steps you guys told me to. Wow that was a stressful 3 days.
