James Oliver Rigney, better known by his pseudonym Robert Jordan, author of bestseller fantasy series
The Wheel of Time amongst other literary products (like numerous books of Conan the Barbarian), passed peacefully away last Sunday after a long and valiant fight against amyloidosis. He was survived by his wife, Harriet McDougal, and undoubtedly many other [extended] family members that I do not know about. He will surely be missed by all of his friends as well as fans world wide.
Apparently the man took his motto about "keeping on writing until they nail his coffin shut" seriously. Thus, my respect to the memory of the man as well as condolences to his close ones.
This feels bad, even more so because he was rather optimistic about future as well as his ability to conclude his fantasy epic before dying, and had a lot of interesting ideas he never got to realize in printed form. I guess the 12th and final book of the Wheel of Time, Memory of Light will be completed based on his notes, and he did reveal the important twists of the story to his family before his untimely death, but reading it won't be the same. A fitting name for the series finale indeed.
