Finish Raider Wars. Open TechRoom. Change to mission simulator.
You should be able to choose most of the flyable ships in most of the missions now.

Otherwise, I don't know any campaign where you can fly or fight a whitestar, since the AI cannot really handle it.

Whitestars are also tricky to fly. You must remember not to hold the fire button when you are using the beams. It will drain your power so you'll have to wait to recharge.
They are not so good against individual fighters, but they are deadly against slow moving targets like bases or destroyers. Storming the Castle is the best mission in Raiders wars to use a Whitestar.

hey, but believe me. The whitestar in the game isn't as cool as the one of the show. It's slow, big, sluggish and a nightmare to fight with.

It would be fun to fight with the Whitestar if you could create battles like Proxima 3 or the one against the Omega-Xs both in Season 4. There, it would be awesome to use the Whitestar.
Problem is, the AI will crash your fellow whitestars against the nearest ship and stay there or just rotate the ship without any sense or shoot aimlessly in the void. That's why actually nobody has really used them in missions.

They are reasonably good in A view from the gallery scenario, but your chances of survival on that mission are minimal with you flying a Thunderbolt.
