Well, I finally figured out how to do some very basic table modding, and I have a few questions.
1.  Why does the weapon image go back to the original version when I modify it (aka, I copied and pasted a Terran turret and made it bigger, slower, and more powerfull, also added the "huge" tag to make it an anti capship weapon, but now it looks like the old blob turret, not cometlike like the new ones.)
2.  How do I change the color of beams.

Thanks in advance to whoever answerers, I don't mind if to anyone with similar questions posts here as well.

You are probably using mediavps right?

If so then you ought to notice that the mediavps actually assign new images for the weapons (there are lots of modular table files in there too). So you might want to check from those - as we are talking about weapons you need to check only the xxx-wep.tbm files - and then use the graphics defined there.

Use different beam section textures?
Do not meddle in the affairs of coders for they are soggy and hard to light

Well, sort of, I didn't want to mess anything up, so I made a new folder and did all my experiments in there.  I ran it as a mod from the launcher but I have the "-mod mediavps" tag in the shortcut I use.

well if you are interested in makeing new weapon effects, I would recommend trying proXimus out, unfortunately I seem to be the only person on the planet smart enough to get it to make shiny happy things.
