Here's a tank I've done up from scratch. The render has the one track shield off to show the detail. Getting the track to wrap around and meet back where I started was a real pain in the butt, but eventually I figured out a trick to make it work.

The way the turret, main gun and machinegun in the turret are glued will allow for somewhat easy animation. (At least in trueSpace, dunno how badly other programs will screw up the axes of sub-groups!)

As for making the treads roll for animation, I have no idea how to accomplish that. Most of the bits under the track shields could be deleted for animation use, I just put all that in because it's stuff that would be needed to support the tank and tracks.

Feel free to use it all as-is, use any or all of the parts in your own stuff etc.

a lil too wide, but otherwise, AWESOME!!!!
Sig nuked! New one coming soon!

Though having a tank in FS2 is awesome, why don't you have something like anti-grav pods as opposed to treads. Treads suck to model/animate.

Burn the land boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me. There's no place I can be since I've found Serenity. But you can't take the sky from me." - Ballad of Serenity

This makes me wish for a freespace EAW mod that much more :D
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

I'm not too happy with the suspension of the road wheels, and after I got it that far I looked up some real tanks. I'd love to get some pics of the Isreali Merkava tank's suspension.

OK, here it is with the sides of the hull pushed in, spaced armor eliminated between hull and tracks, tracks moved in and tops of the track shields narrowed up.

I've been reading Harry Turtledove's "WorldWar" and "Colonization" series about aliens invading and colonizing Earth in the middle of World War 2. I was dinking around attempting to make a tank (or as they call it, a landcruiser- don't anyone tell Toyota!) like the Lizards have. Since the Lizards max out at about 5 feet tall, the 2.476 meter peak height of this tank should be about right.

After seeing pics of the Merkava, this one of mine seems pretty poor in comparison. 'Course alien looking the Merkava may be, it wouldn't do as a Lizard tank because it has its engine up front.
