Ran into another problem.  My thrustmaster joystick no longer works in SCP, it does appear in the game controllers and it does work there.  You can use the properties page to center the joystick...etc.

Does Windows Vista offer a legacy controller option in the game controllers control panel (or whatever it calls it)?

What options does the launcher give you for joystick type?

Ah ha that was the cause, launcher had no joystick set.  First time I think I've ever had to go and choose a joystick. 

Oh well... one less thing to buy

yes joystick they work with gameport does vista doesnt support anymore.
microsoft decided to remove the support for joystick after the release of xp, the 64 bit version of xp havnt any gameport support, too.

here is an inoffical driver to add the gameport support in vista 32, but he doesnt work with vista 64.

but usb joystick work without problems with vista.

Yup, actually I don't think i've seen a old style joystick in ages.

Define "Old Style" .. I still have a ported Atari 8-way single button joystick.

I also have an old TRS-80 steel-ball single button serial mouse.

I remember when that was new.......
