Macross Modling help! Model errors for conversion!
Hello all!

This is a desperate plea for help.

I get model permissions from a lot of people outside the community who:

A.) Used to play FS2 but never modeled for it
B.) Heard of the game but knows nothing about it's mechanics at all
C.) "What's FS2?"  :)

Now to my biggest dilemma. This is NOT for a particular mod, this is for a SINGLE RELEASE!

For the last 2 Months+ I've had a sweet 8k VF-19 (Macross Plus) and a line on a nearly finished VF-21 (same). These are not Robotech and won't be in that mod.

I just got a status letter on the VF-21 and the creator would like to know what I (or we) have done with his work for FS2. It would be a shame to have work of this quality go to waste (including cockpits).

I've prepared things as much as possible and got a partial conversion so there are model issues to sort out. I would hate to reply with,"I tried myself, but no one with the skills needed cares enough to help me with issues, oh BTW could I please have the vf-21 anyway to keep on my hard drive in case someday I get help?)

I doubt that's going to happen. And this person expressed an interest in making MORE models in the future. He's not interested in learning about FS2, but he's heard of it and would like screenies of his work in game.

I would greatly appreciate help with this, it helps the community in the long run also and helps our reputation as opposed to hurting it and NOT getting future permissions from him and the MW community if they were to appear not worth the interest to our community.

What are the issue's you have run into?
What is exactly the problem? You just want the model from its current file type (which is what btw?) converted into .pof?

I love the VF-19&21, Plus was awesome. I'll help if I can.

My issues:

1.) PCS2 does not have a modeling diagnosis output function (aside from a few messages). So Basically a NON-Modeler (like me) is clueless. That's why 99% of the time I can't describe WHY I need help.

2.) I've done hundreds of conversions (my screenshot albums and community participation over the years) where a author makes several models and maybe 2-3 might not convert and this sit in a folder, next to converted works. No idea while some pass and some fail.

3.) I paid $400 for a computer tower I upgraded and found out I didn't need after all. I was not able to return it (dicks) and lost my job 5 months later. I did manage to get pcs2 apparently semi-working on it but it's a pain in the ass to transfer files and I'll get a thumbdrive or something later on to fascilitate that.

4.) The PCS2 conversion that worked only had a small section of the model converted (despite being one whole solid object)

5.) Seeing is better than describing: Here's the file of the raw cob (not touched by me) and the png only converted to bmp so it's covered. forgive having 2 files as for some reason 7zip would NOT bundle them together(?)

I was going to render a wireframe of it to show you the amount of extra interior geometry that might be able to be gutted to just leave the outer (visible) shell. TS didn't like that (error).

I had tried to break it up into subobjects myself and it made thousands and locks up my system.

This copy reamins untouched, but my skill level is limited to: "orient left and add light if needed."

Occasionally I feel brave enough to try kitbashing with mixed results. (some acclaim and some failures).

You happen to have it in format that 3ds max can understand?

Best I can do:

.3ds version (Not .MAX), I also had to resave the bmp cause for some reason going from cob to 3ds still strips a texture off it. fixed..

It really needs modeling work, as it's not a game model. I'm actually surprised PCS2 let it through.

It looks rather bugless. (though is rather small by FS standards)

I just got it in game, works fine

Needs a proper shine map (mine sucks, glows in right places, cockpit lost transparency when I made it a pcx (I had to, and of course eventually a NORMAL MAP).

Maybe converting it to .dds would work. (paint the glass with alpha if conversion itself won't solve the problem)
I never seen any Robotech series, but IMHO that's an awasome fighter and I hope there would be more. (plus maybe some capships)

We got tons of them.. In various stages... I was running the RT mod over at GW since 2003. (Max Sterling before that). MACROSS is teh 1st part of America hack Robotech.

Anyway, this is the latest with primitive glow map. I'm waiting to hear back from the author about a normal map.



When I get final word I'll start getting ready to release it.

No custom Weapons are planned at this point so I'll just use the Herc table. As I have in testing.
It has one primary (the Undercarraige Gun) and 1 secondary bank 2 ports in front of the top intakes.

No shield of course, but it has a dockpoint for rearming.

Good News, Hanato liked teh pics and sent me the yf21. I oriented it and lighted it, but it failed (of course). It's not as good as the 19, but it's way better than the LP one we have currently.

ah, I got it into pcs2 this morning then had a friend over so I couldn't continue today. I see Water beat me to it.
Regardless I imported the model into the game myself

noticed I effed up and deleted the whole bunch in a fit of mindless rage.

Ah well, nice model regardless

Ok folks!

[Now FIXED!]

I made a Basara version for myself. Tweak what you want, I just used a Herc table so supply your own.

It has ONE Primary, one dual FP secondary up top and I added another dual set for teh outer LEGS (for that set I reccomend a hornet or tornado type swarm missile weapon).

It's supposed to have PPB system but that tiny sphere moves around and does NOT cover the entire fighter so I left it out for Gerwalk and Battroid modes later on (then it will be the LEFT arm plate only!)

It also should have the Bomber tag to have use of a laser in the head (pointed liek 45 degress up facing rear) but I decided NOT to include it at all.

If you find it lacking, then FIX IT! Otherwise thank Hanato for allowing it's use, me for my determination, Water for actually CONVERTING it, and all the others in this thread who gave positive support...

Nuff said.

Water did teh conversion so final size was up to him (since I can't reconvert it), that's why teh missiles it fires look so big, custom missiles would be smaller. FS2 ships are hideously big.

Next project yf-21 I have almost ready to go, need critical pcs2 converting help. (again)
Note it's not as good as the 19, but oh well.

[EDIT] I think I screwed up the docking... Dunno.

umm.. You do know I didn't clean any of the crap that was inside the model. It was so you could get it in game fast. The model is substandard game wise but it's your call.  :p
