One of those single-mission things...

Well, here it is. One of those somewhat straightforward kill-space-nazis missions.

Ive tested it as well as the person who made it can I think, and I dont see any glaring errors as far as things that should happen not happening.

Contains a slightly modified ships.tbl, so use it as a mod. Its not in a vp file since its two files, so just unzip to your data directory and select the folder as a mod. includes a mod .ini just cause...

-I'd recommend you dont equip a maxim gun unless youre having trouble otherwise...
-And it was balanced for medium. w/o the maxim.
-Enjoy... (hopefully)

any comments are welcome.

1 Question.
Everytime I select the Mod or a folder it says this.

A Mod Directectery cant contain space.
Ive put the files and folder everywhere and it still wont work.

Re: One of those single-mission things...
@Chrisatsilph : Sounds like you have a rather old version of FSO as that problem was fixed a long time ago.

You might want to clean your FSO folder up as mentioned here and then install using Turey's installer from here.

If you have any further questions I'll split this off and stick it in the FS2_Open support forum so we don't disrupt Marduk's thread any further.

Re: One of those single-mission things...
Anyway I tried the mission and it is really good. Maybe a few tweakings will make it super good.
Some little problems I noticed.

1) As I was destroying the forward beam cannons on the Orion class destroyer (forgot name) I didnt have to worry being attacked, nothing really attacked me in that mission except some laser turrents.
2) At the end of the mission some directives are still white as shown as not completed rather then a fail or pass.
3) Basicly in that missionall I did was just destroying the forward beam cannons and disableing the Orion destroyer, and some how those escorts survived when I was more then 5km off them. Maybe make some bombers appear and attack the cargo directly.

Anyway I like this mission, It was nicely set up and had some fair detail in the Briefing and Debriefing, I hate 2 sentence long briefings.
Also I liked it that your player was actually Alpha 2, I think every mission ive played as Alpha 1 so this is a change, took me by surprise because I made Alpha 1's ship have a good loadout while the rest had defalt.

Re: One of those single-mission things...
thanks for the comments.

1.) did you use the modified ships table? if not, I believe the variable I used for the fighterbay (and subsequent launches from the fighterbay) will always be 0, so no ships get launched from it.
2.) which directives?
3.) like 1. the destroyer should be launching bombers and unless comms gets taken down early on, an NTF cruiser with bombers should jump in.

and oops. i meant to disallow the player from editing the loadout any alpha but yourself.

Re: One of those single-mission things...
Let me see now...

1. I can order Alpha wing to cover me or to form on my wing. No other orders possible, not even Engage.

2. Alpha will not fire on the containers if ordered to defend me. Beta will.

3. Alpha will fire on the destroyer.

4. After Cancer wing goes down, Alpha 1 has the order "attack Alpha wing". It does nothing useful - it looks like it's trying to attack itself. 3 and 4 have no orders.

5. There seems to be no RTB directive if the NTD escapes even when the containers go down.

6. RTB is triggered if the NTD is down but not the containers.

7. Disabling the NTD by oneself (without the maxim) takes a lot of pounding. Seems not worth the effort.

8. The "destroy the Ross' beam cannon" directive remains open if the NTC Ross is destroyed.

9. The Ross chickens out after its beam cannon is destroyed. Realistic, but it does mean an objective will fail.

Maybe there should be some instruction to destroy the NTD beam attacking the GTC?

Otherwise looks like a decent mission. Seems quite doable without the maxim or infyrno (double HL-7s, harpoons, tempests), although completing all objectives is challenging, particularly both preserving the GTC and killing the NTC. There are too many instructions for the player to do (without maxim at least), and wingmen can't be ordered to help.

Edit: What am I saying? Fenrises are fragile. Ignore the Ross' beam, and just kill it.

The NTD's comms can die quickly from beam fire, preventing the NTC's arrival.  Sometimes the NTD will escape, sometimes not - preserving the GTC and chasing away the NTC seem the difference. The NTD's fighter bay will I think usually go down to beams. The GVCv seems in no danger. I never felt in personal danger, except if I attacked the NTC at a poor angle and got hit by AAA beams. Perhaps some friendly fighters could be cut?
