Strange asteroid-related wingman behaviour
Haven't seen anyone else post about this problem, but if you've had it as well, let me know.

I've set up an asteroid escort mission, where the player and one other fighter escorts a ship to her destination. As soon as the asteroids arrive, the wingman shoots the first couple, then flies off in a random vector and starts shooting aimlessly into empty space. He doesn't make any attempt to stay near the ship, and continues to fly straight while shooting.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

Asteroids arrive?

Do you mean when the ships enter an active asteroid field? Could it be that you simply have some untextured asteroids that you can't see?

Re: Strange asteroid-related wingman behaviour
:) Asteroids arrive meaning after the ship enters the field and the first white-bracketed asteroids are shot down by the wingman as per expected. It's after twenty seconds or so that he starts exhibiting this strange behaviour.

Could well be some asteroids that aren't showing up, but I'd have thought he'd leave the ones that weren't directly threatening the escort ship instead of chasing phantom rocks. Asteroid type is all the same (brown), and I can see the field fine otherwise.

His behaviour changes once the ship becomes threatened and he runs back towards the escort vessel to shoot down the asteroids, but once it's clear he's off on his merry way again.

EDIT: Pretty rocks btw...they really look good in the new mediavps

Re: Strange asteroid-related wingman behaviour
Ah..maybe I didn't make this clear. I can see the asteroids fine. Since I'm only using one type of asteroid in the field (brown), I don't expect any other asteroid models to be doing any funky stuff.

Only thing I can think of is that I edited the asteroids.tbl to include debris data for the new species I added. Since it's just copied entries from the Terran debris I don't imagine it would cause any problems to the AI.

It happened to me...in addition to what you mentioned.

Uhm...debris...maybe there was something wrong with their paths.
