FS2 in Popular Science
Yesterday I was getting a car oil change and I decided to look through some of the magazines sitting in the pile. The one I decided to flip through was none other than Popular Science, the latest issue. So in this magazine of technological innovations, science fiction, and whatnot, there was a segment on cute little things you can build yourself, a slight explanation of how to do it, and the overall cost. This one guy built this flight simulator cockpit complete with NO STAND stickers in all the right places and a huge 32" screen or so in front of him for all his flight siming glory.

The GAME he was demonstrating was a completely different story. It WAS Freespace 2 with slight UI changes.. the 2 angled bars in the middle were vertical and the radar had a different background, but other than that, it was the same Font, same Wing status indicators on the right, same energy management on the bottom, same text format even! Popular Science was calling this game Battlestar Galactica though. Perhaps I'm missing something, maybe he built his own mod for Freespace 2, but what looked like the briefing stage on one of the pictures appeared to be alot different.

EDIT: GOODNESS.. Here is it!

Man... you're in for a treat...

 :drevil:

I'm a bit confused as to how you've managed to evade it this long. :p
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

And here comes a title change.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Re: FS2 in Popular Science
Well.. besides my lack of knowledge of this o-so-cool FS2 adaptation, its STILL worth noting that its been almost a decade since its release yet it shows up in Popular Science somehow...

(And yes, a title change would be great.. I hate my name and I hate my title)

BSG Reimagined is probably one of the few reasons people outside of HLP/Game Warden/SG know what FS2 is.

It looks like it is the BSG:BTRL demo (THE BSG mod for FS2), based on the picture.

Yeah, that and the Babylon 5 mod that has also shown up in several magazines. I think those two are the "killer apps" of the FSO engine.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Re: FS2 in Popular Science
This isn't even the latest issue. I happen to have a subscription and it was reported several months ago. I guess I never got around to mentioning it. I'm surprised it got a mention, but it would have been nice if he'd mentioned HLP or even FS2. I wonder if whoever the guy is posts here.
Interestingly enough, this signature is none of the following:
A witty remark on whatever sad state of affairs the world may or may not be in
A series of localized forum in-jokes
A clever and self-referential comment on the nature of signatures themselves.

I do remember seeing it before, at least the whole cockpit setup if not the article itself.
