So I finally arse myself to make a model...
...and Blender won't work. I get this message in a command prompt DOS-like window when I boot it up, and whenever I try to use a menu in blender everything just goes...well, crazy :doubt:

"Compiled with Python version 2.5.
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python... No installed python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily."

So I guess I need Python. After looking it up I found out it is a programming language.  How do you "get" a programming language? :wtf:

Any help?
I'm running windows XP service pack 2.
Fun while it lasted.

Actually the whole python thing isn't what is causing your menu thing, but if you want to get python you can get it here.

What's the 'crazy' that you're seeing?

Whenever I use one of the menus in blender, the whole screen (in the blender window, anyway) shifts sporadically with every time one of the options is highlighted. This is a minor bug in itself, though I'd like to get it fixed encase it would cause me more problems down the road.

Do you have the latest stable blender build? (2.45) As well as the latest video card drivers? Blenders interface is all done through Open GL, so having bad drivers could cause that kind of error AFAIK.

Re: So I finally arse myself to make a model...
Once I put the anti alias thing on in my vid. card settings to something other than auto, and the screen proceeded to copy and zoom itself simultaneously. btw, what blender are you using. I prefer 2.36 for modelling, because you don't have that crappy widget thingy, and it's easier to use (I think) 2.45 is for rendering better quality and more complicated stuff. (and rendering is faster)

I'm using 2.45. and the latest OpenGL drivers, so we know the problem isn't with my video card unless blender doesn't support the 8800 GTS.

Excalibur:

That button. ;)

Also, as far as I am aware there is no valid reason to use 2.36 over 2.45 for ease of modelling. That said there is no overwhelming need to upgrade either if you are only modelling, but I think there are a few helpful modelling and UV mapping improvments in there. :)

haloboy:
I have an 8600GTS on forceware 163.71 drivers, and it works fine so it's not going to be anything specific to the 8800. (I know the drivers are not up to date, but until I find something that doesn't work I'm not going to change!)

One thing you could try is the visual themes, so ignoring everything in this image but the red arrows:

Grab that line and drag it down to reveal the options panel. Go to themes in that pull down section and set it to rounded and see if that makes any difference.

Alright, well, now everything seems fine even without doing what you said. I guess this is just a simple graphical glitch that can be ignored.

But thanks anyway, and what you said to do works regardless ;)
