Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
Is it posible to modify the Asteroid/debry field in such a way to get gas/dust clouds in missions that are not set in nebulae?

Ie where the asteroid field box is drawn becomes a cloud becomes a gas/dust cloud

I suppose you could make a poof glowpoint, then stick it on an invisible mesh, then have it replace the asteroid POF.

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
Sorry to hijack, but I think it's somewhat related...

How about normal "clouds"? Same proceedure?

I was wondering if a cloud model.pof with a transparent texture (50-70% opatincy?) would be good?
No collide tag and not targetable and invulnerable.

Having physical clouds you can fly into and chase enemies into would be more fun in atmospheric skyboxes...

Am I just crazy or are these doable ideas?

It would actually be pretty ugly, more like a soap bubble than a cloud.

:(   I'm just really emotional right now...

However if you played with opacity could you make a half decent one if you at least had a passable mesh to base it on (like an asteroid?)

Not looking for perfection, just something new.

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
No. Clouds have density, so they must be simulated with particle systems or particle-like systems such as asteroid fields or nebulae.
No matter what shape they are, polymeshes are only a skin with zero thickness, hence the 'soap bubble' effect.

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
Yeah it would be cool to have it like where the player is flying in some dust cloud, and then they leave it to reveal something else beyond it. Rather than just have something pop into existence. But outside of a nebula. The only way I figured ot simulate that would be to have two missions :(

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
Ok, I was just wondering cause one time I messed up and in the blind game mission for RT all the asteroids in the field were destroyable, but non-colliding and we were flying through them.

Naturally that now sparked a half brained idea from asteroid to cloud.

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
So basically you're looking for immersible nebulae that you can fly through?

Like Freelancer?
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

Re: Nebula Clouds Asteroid Mod - Is it possible?
Something like that...i think. - never played freelancer.

I ask because i want to do a mission where you pursue enemies to the edge of a nebula/dustcloud, then have to dodge a huge ship coming out of the cloud point-blank...

Watch B5-a call to arms to see an example where the Victory has stopped just outside a huge cloud, the has quickly dodge as the Exaclibur Flees from the cloud pursued by enemies. This results in a near miss of collision for both ships.
