There's no way to do this, is there?
In an effort to solve the problem of plot-critical wingmen getting blown away, I had the idea to ship-guardian some of the wingmen and have them depart when their hull gets really low. But you can't have individual ships break off from a wing and then leave, can you?

What about trying it? :D

You can issue orders to single ships with the appropriate SEXPs. You can't do that if you manage the departure cue of the entire wing. ;)
