I have A bit of a problem with Fred...

I have been putting some new ships in the ships tbl file, but I have just noticed that now whenever I open a mission with the shivan com node in it just says "Fred has encountered unknown ship weapon classes" And then the com nodes are replaced with Ulysses' and I cannot place shivan com nodes anymore. But it is still in the tbl file. It becomes availible if I move it a few places up, but then the same thing happens with the ship that was directlty above it. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks.

Upload the .tbl file you're using

(the attach box in the additional options box while postibg a reply provides this option)

And we can have a look and see if everything is where it's supposed to be

Sounds to me like there's a typo in there. You know, a misplaced ; or , somewhere. In the Comm Node entry, I'd guess, since the error is dependant on the CommNode's position.

I read somewhere that the tbl file cannot be more the 400 KB that is most likely the propblem, I was wondering if anyone knew how to increase that limit. I will try to upload the tbl file itself as soon as possible. I need to do something right now that may take a while, but I'll get back to you guys.

That's not the problem. I have several table files over 400 kb and they work just fine.

However, there is another limit to be concerned with: ships limit. 130 ships in the table is the max (unless you use an Inferno build, in which case it is 300). Although I think a warning like "The table has too many ships" comes up in that case.

IIRC the file size limit affect earlier versions of FreeSpace Open. It shouldn't be a problem with any build at least since 3.6.7

The 380kb limit only affected retail and resulted in a crash not the behaviour you're seeing.

If you are using FS2_Open run the debug version of FRED. It will tell you what the problem with your table is. If you post the table too we can find it for you.

Are you using a mod folder for your files but not specifying it on the FRED command line?
