Yes, but not amazingly so; just 512.  My family's computer is an ancient beast, has only 384MB, and yet manages to handle it reasonably quickly.  If yours is really lower than that, I feel like you should just be grateful that you can play music on it in the first place.

When playing songs off the internet, you can usually find the file in temporary internet files. Copy it and rename to a valid format (works on radioblogclub, rename to .mp3....)

That's why I use XMPlay; because it can play almost every audio file I have stashed away somewhere. Winamp works quite well on a computer with more than 256 MB RAM, though. Pity it doesn't support Mac OS X, otherwise I might use it.
