Model Request: Asteroid
I searched a lot, but i couldn't find a rock that fits the requirements, so i wonder if someone could make a Asteroid for me.
I tried myself, but the best result was something that looks like a giant peanut from outa space :sigh:.
The model may be in any of the following formats, although .cob is prefered, the formats are: .cob, .3ds, .lwo, .obj.
The poly count should be around 19000, but should not exceed 24000 polys.
Texturing would be nice, but not necessary.

So if someone has time and interest PM me for more info and pics ( there are some special parts on the rock, i can provide pics ).

Thx in advance!

Well it'd certainly help if you told us the "requirements"

Re: Model Request: Asteroid
The Asteroid is more a very small planetoid ( 15000m/ 28000m / 32000m ).
One third of that planetoid has broken away, and has left a very "edgy" surface, with a couple of large, deep canyons. The areas of that part of the rock are plastered with "spikes" of various size ( from length 100m and 6m diameter to 800m length and 37m diameter), and debris of various size.

A noticeable "landmark" is a large "tongue", which "juts" from the bottom of the rock, like it was unwilling to break apart with the rest of the debris.

The other side of the rock has a couple of craters of various size, most of 'em "weathered" out ( no sharp edges ),
the largest of 'em ( 900m diameter )has debris in it, leftover from the impact of a larger rock.

After thinking about it, i corrected the poly counts for the Asteroid.

I assume 5000 are simply not enough, and the edgy surface will eat a lot of polys, since it is supposed to be detailed ( although the spikes don't require that many polys).

Additionally, ( optional, since not really necessary ) there is a cavern which can be accessed through three small tunnels which have sharp corners, and are only 20-30m in diameter.

Re: Model Request: Asteroid
The Earth Defense demo has a large, planetoid sized asteroid. Could that do what you need?

The one from the screen shots on GW? Sadly not, would probably to much work to edit the model, IF i get permission to use it.

Would the Scar Asteroid from BTRL work, possibly?

Re: Model Request: Asteroid
The mission i'm FREDing is for BtRL, and those asteroids are already in my mission. Sadly they don't fit the requirements.
Not sure if i get permission to edit 'em, and even if so, i need someone who can do that and turn one of 'em in the rock i need.
So i think it's probably better/ easier to start from scratch, then edit an already existing model.

Re: Model Request: Asteroid
That's plan B.
I found a texture a while back. If that doesn't fit the model, i'll use the BtRL ones.
Unless i find someone who texture it properly. ;)

But first i have to find someone who'll make the model...

Re: Model Request: Asteroid
Apparently not ATM...

I for one went this route about 4 years ago.

Got this asteroid pof somewhere, it has two tunnels into it that wind around and empty into a large cavern (I say large cause I re-sized the whole rock to be HUGE).

Problem is no matter what texture you use, you get lost in the tunnels and smash into the walls cause you can't define DEPTH or fly through the tunnels normally without someone to UV map them properly... It has no other features. I don't even remember where I got it from back then.
