'looking' for an explosion sound
 :) title explains everything.

I need a really powerful, long explosion sound. About 20 seconds. I have been looking all over the place aka internet but failed to find something appropriate.
Something REALLY :eek2:  big is just going down and one of the FS2 sounds are big enough.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
You know the scene in the Second Renaissance ( in the Animatrix ) where the robot nukes itself? If you could record that sound in good quality, I bet it'd be what you're looking for.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
It would also be nicer if the explosions didn't look like room sized explosions...it is really ridiculous to see juggernaughts blowing up with an explosion that expands 1km in .5 of a second an then disappear 2 secs later. We need to 'listen' out for an explosion that actually looks like it is 2km in diameter... ;)

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
believe me. It's very different. And it looks awesome. And it needs a unique sound.
If you played my campaigns, you know they always have some fresh ideas in it so trust me on this one

So, anyone got a sound? Even the Deathstar killing Alderaan is far too short and weak. Maybe something like the sound from IndependenceDay, when the Mothership blows up.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
You should just watch some movies with REALLY big booms (try something with nukes or meteors) and getting a good quality microphone. Download audacity, tweak, you're set :D

:wtf: Why not just plug the output of the TV or DVD player into your Line In port?

Unless you mean go to the cinema and do it there or someting...

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
no, that one doesn't fit.

A planet being ripped apart. , that's the kind of sound I need.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
Here is my FS2 explosion mix - though it may not be akin to a "planet being ripped apart", though I think if some one spent enough time on it (using FS2 explosion sounds), you'd have a pretty good one.

I can understand why you had to post here - there is nothing on Google...

Watch the star wars prequels (I can't believe I said that), also Titan A.E., Lost in Space (new one),
Transformers (new)....

Also found this:

Otherwise, you can look up audio software and make your own.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
All of those explosions are horribly low quality, and you heard the man, he needs a PLANET BEING RIPPED IN HALF

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
There's no sound in space. Whatever you hear is simulated.
There does not exist a sound for a planet being ripped in half on your fighter's on-board sound simulator, and therefore, it plays nothing.

That's a good explanation for why all explosions sound the same XD.

Re: 'looking' for an explosion sound
Besides that - the sounds from a planet being ripped in half would be well more than a million unique
different noises. Rocks, people, etc etc.

Unless it were instantaneous, it'd also take a long time to listen to... like years.

You just need a unique, big noise that'll last say 10 seconds or so.
Try taking several of these explosions and overlaying them in Audacity.

It has to last 20 seconds but yes, I guess I need to record and mix something on my own.
