So it was fine until I did glowmaps for the ships then that started happening. There something I'm missing here? Example of what I have in the ship .tbl entries

does the effect file need something in the alpha channel or something?

How are the warp animation and that texture you're seeing named?

well the carrier is vgrcarrier and vgrcarrier-glow

hyperspace effect is names like hsvgr, hshgn, hskad

A debug log could help.

Since virtually nobody except you has been using the HW warp anim since forever, it is very possible something broke in the code at some point and noone noticed it. If you can't find a solution, you might want to prepare a small package for reliable reproduction and Mantis it.

meh if its broken then im fine with just editing the FS warp a bit and leaving it at that unless someone fixes the hw warp

Pretty sure someone will look into fixing it if you can provide a reproducible test case and Mantis it.

It sure won't get fixed if the SCP doesn't know about it.

This is not HW2. When something breaks, you don't have to say "screw it, I'll try to find a workaround".

I used Homeworld warpin a bit in Dimensional Eclipse.
On testing I noticed that the effect wasn't rendering (ship kind of coming out of thin air) but I wrote that off as me being a derp and messed something up...
but i suppose something was up since well it was working with the exact same animation before.

So it's really an engine bug then, if someone else is gettin it.
