Converting an external SATA drive to internal
Ok, my 500Gb External USB2 Drive is really playing up, the drive itself seems fine, but the on/off switch seems to be dying, and the problem seems to be that the vibrations of the drive are breaking the 'on/off' connection and therefore playing merry hell with data reading.

I'm thinking about seeing if the drive can be switched over to use the internal SATA set-up, but was wondering, before I start wading through the reams of wire inside my computer, whether anyone here has managed to do this? The connections appear to be the same at a glance, but if anyone knows anything I should be aware of, it might save me pulling out a whole wad of wiring for no purpose.

They're both SATA drives. It should work fine.

One thing to watch out for is drive size. If the external happens to be a 2.5" drive, mounting it inside a desktop is going to be a bit more work.

why would an SCP error be considered as news? :wtf: *smacks Cobra*It's a feature.

Re: Converting an external SATA drive to internal
Thanks, it should be ok, it's a 'standard' sized drive, so it looks a pretty simple job, but it's always the simple-looking ones that end up the most complex, still at least I have an excuse to try it now ;)

Thanks for the advice :)
