Is there a tool that will take Maya's save file format (Maya binary or Maya Ascii) and make it into a POF? I've heard that someone was working on the POF constructor suite to help with it, but is there another tool to use while I wait for that?

Well, if you can export as DAE, then just use the Collada importer

I do believe I can... :eek2:

EDIT: Nope. Not working. I've installed what I do believe is the latest version of POF constructor suite (2.0.3, May 15th, 08 I think.) But it won't take the exported dae file from Maya and open it (it says it isn't compatible.) Help please.  :D

Try this:

http://the158th.hard-light.net/spicious/pcs2.7z

Additionally, you will need to download this:

http://the158th.hard-light.net/spicious/libcollada14dom21.7z

To get it to run. I rename the EXE to PCS2-DAE.exe and place it in the PCS2 dir along with the dll.

Dragonsniper the dae exporter with maya is crap.
You need to download a proper plugin, enable that plugin, and then export using that plugin. THEN it'll work.

The collada I got is from feeling software: http://www.feelingsoftware.com/content/view/55/72/lang,en/. Dunno if that's where I downloaded it from or not, seems like you just  have to register before you download it.

I've got it, and it works for exporting just fine. Thanks!.

I read an earlier post you put up that said to use 3dexploration and then convert it over to TrueSpace, and then it can be opened with the POF constructor suite. But when I opened it with 3d exploration I saw it could be saved in .cob format, so I did. Then I opened it with POF constructor suite, but when I did there was no picture of the ship. Then to make matters worse, when I tried to save it as a .pof file, but the constructor suite gave me an error then crashed. Any advice?

If you're using Maya, then forget 3d exploration and Truespace. All you need is Maya, the Collada exporter and PCS2 (the one in Spicious' signature). Maya will convert .mb or .ma to .dae, and PCS2 will convert that .dae to .pof. Then with PCS2 (or PCS1, or ModelView) you can add the necessary pof data (OR, you can also add all that stuff in Maya as well. Just export an FS2 model from PCS2 to .dae and open it with Maya and you'll see all the fancy stuff that you can add to the model for the given information (firepoints, and so forth).

I downloaded the one in Spicious' signature, but where do I unpackage it. If I just try to run it in it's package, it gives me an error that says "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."

you should put it into the previous PCS2 directory.

Yes I think the link in Spicious' sig is just the exe and not all the necessary files. You just need the regular PCS2, then Spicious's and just extract the latter into the PCS2 directory (overwriting the .exe). Or you might want to backup the original exe too.

I'll try that. I think the problem may have been I was missing a C++ file that helps it boot. I found it on FreeSpace wiki, so I hope that will fix it.

I have another problem. PCS2 gets the .dea file in all great and it all works now, but when I try to save the file as a .pof, the constructor crashes and dies.

Here's the error I get when I try to open the .pof file using the new PCS2 (Alpha version.) After the error, the program shuts down. After it displays the ship I can't do anything, it just crashes.

I get that too.
Open the file with the older version of PCS2, and it'll work :D

Yes it will. But all in all, I want PCS2 to open a .dae file from Maya, and then save it as a .pof file. But the same error occurs while trying to save the .dae file into a .pof file. If only stupid Maya would save in more than one format... Still need help! Sorry.

Perhaps try saving as a PMF, open in the regular PCS2.0.3 exe, and save it as POF from that?  If that does work it sounds like Spicious broke something unrelated to Collada support, which would be bad.  Otherwise it's a Collada bug and you should get Spicious the model to fix it.

Thanks, but I've tried, and it doesn't work. (Maybe an OLD version might work...) I'll check.

Nope. I didn't realize that the old version didn't open a .pmf (or anything but a .pof for that matter.) I have one more option, if it doesn't work, then I'll have to wait...

Akalabeth Angel, how did you get yours to work? And what version of Maya are you using if it does work?

EDIT: I have one more thing to add. I tried opening the Maya file as an .obj file in 3dexploration and then save it as a .cob file. From there I open it with PSC2 and try to save it as a .pof but it gives me an error in the bottom of the pcs2 screen where it shows the saving completion. It gets 99% done then stops on "writing shield collision tree."
