Yep, that's right, I just got an idea. You in the back, no comparisons between how many times I have an idea per month and how often Voliton updates the VBB. :p

Anyway, I was browsing through the VBB and got an idea: Instead of having campaigns with a staff of modellers, level editors, table editors, 2D Art creators, etc. why not have a "design group"? What is a design group? Basically, a group of people with such skills as mentioned above. They would go from campaign-to-campaign, designing mods and/or levels for the campaign, then move onto another. A sort of mercenary group, only it would be volunteer.
It would make it much easier to get good models for a campaign and it would remove the hassle of finding one person who can model but can't texture, then finding someone who can, but then being held up because you need someone who can make POFs from the work of the first two recruitees. Instead, a design group would be contacted and they'd do the ship(s) for you.

sounds good, but can someone assemble a working "team" ?

(stressing the working part)

Interesting idea. :)

Unfortunately, it runs a little contrary to the idea of new people getting new skills and getting into their own projects - and the design team would get, I daresay, tired. :)

I was thinking of doing NTV (Neo Terra Victorious) as an "open" campaign, that is you could go in and look at the Staff forum if you liked. All the mission overviews and tables/etc would be posted so anyone who felt like helping, maybe balancing some tables or making the odd mission, could work on their own time and send it to me when they felt like it. Then I'd post it for review, EVERYONE would refine it, and then we'd upload it :)

Not me (at least not for now) as I've got...other...projects to do.

The purpose of the team would be to make it easier to make a campaign-by no means am I saying that one team per campaign is bad. In this case, (A)it makes it easier to get a campaign going, (B)it allows the campaign lead to focus on the overall plot and website, rather than coordinating the modellers with the TBL and POF importers, (C)means that the overall quality could be better.
The point being to encourage new campaigns, not stunt the growth of people's skills. Something like the Babylon Project would probably not use such a team because it's easy to find Freespace and Babylon fans. On the other hand, a campaign not based on any other media production could have a hard time finding help.

Well the team will nead to have a very good leader and very responsible team members... as something like that can get tiring and hard to keep together as peoples schedules conflict... especially when people live in different time zones and such.

I still quite like the idea. Maeglamor would probably like to talk about this... :)
