Freespace refuses to recognize my joystick.
I own and use a Saitek X52 flight control system, which is a joystick/throttle combo. The joystick, according to all diagnostics, is working fine. The game is, as far as I can tell, working fine. But when I get in mission, the game will not respond to the controls. It takes keyboard commands just fine, but will not respond to the joystick, throttle, or any of the buttons on either one.

I have not changed anything in my installation since the last time I played the game, and it worked then.  The only thing that's changed is that I downloaded the High Noon remake mission.

Curiously, it will respond to the mouse emulator function of the joystick when not in a mission. The problem seems restricted to in-game flight.

This is in Mantis as issue 1879

Make sure the joystick is set up in the launcher and enabled in game.  Hit F2 from the menu.

Re: Freespace refuses to recognize my joystick.
Yeah... Check that appropriate controller is selected in the Launcher's Audio/Joystick tab. Then check that the controls are bound to appropriate axes in the in-game settings. If that doesn't work, try creating a new pilot and re-configuring the controls. The fact that problem appeared after installing mission content means it's possible your pilot file is corrupted, and since pilot files store the controls, it's plausible that it might have some effect on the issue... or not. I dunno.

Are you on XP or Vista or something more exotic?
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

I'm on XP, and the launcher had "no joystick" selected for some unfathomable reason.  I already checked the in-game settings.  I'm guessing that was the problem; going to play a mission to confirm now.

Issue resolved.  By the by, I highly recommend High Noon.  Needs some work, but it's a solid mission, and makes a lot more sense than its counterpart from the retail campaign.
