FS2Open CTD, any campaign.

for those who cannot be bothered reading it, I had crash issues on the new version of fsport. 

After realising the problem was most likely corrupted VP files, i decided to wipe everything clean and start fresh.

So I deleted FS2Open AND FS2 retail, reinstalled retail in a clean folder and proceeded to work Turey's installer in for the SCP.

Here's the situation:  FS2 retail works fine.   FS2 Open does not. 

Whichever campaign I pick, whenever I click on the briefing room doors to go on the next mission, the loading screen appears and game CTD's at that point.

I have not changed hardware configuration at all.  FS2 Open worked fine before I had that glitch (see linked thread).

Kinda stumped here.  Any suggestions?

Obviously I expressed my doubts in an unclear method in the other thread. I suspected that your MediaVps might be corrupt, in which case downloading them manually would have solved the issue.

If you simply installed FS2 and then ran Turey's Installer, the situation is most likely the same. Again, redownloading the MediaVps manually should solve the issue. Note: I'm making the assumption that when you say "FSO doesn't work", you actually mean "FSO with MediaVPs does'nt work". If I am mistaken, do correct me.

Yeah sorry.  I never really think that its possible to play retail without using FSO.  just tried, it works.

So it seems its the mediavps.

But since I redownloaded everything again using turey's installer, in a different folder, after erasing all the old files and folders, I can't see how it could be corrupted vp's, unless the ones included in the installer already are.

And my problem now seemingly affects all campaigns.  I tried fs2 mediavps, fsport-mediavps and derelict and all three gave me the same issue. 

Derelict worked fine before I deleted and reinstalled everything.

EDIT: Also, the crash isnt the same.   prior to reinstall i crashed to desktop after half the mission was loaded, and i had a debug script that popped up.  This time it crashes as soon as it starts loading and there is only a windows message stating "FreeSpace" has crashed.

Turey's Installer seems to often time out the MediaVP downloads, which results in incomplete .vp files. And that in turn can cause, among other things, missing model errors and missing textures. And just crashes. That's why redownloading the MediaVPs manually from the release thread should fix the issue. The Sectorgame links have proven to be a working choice.

problem solved, thanks, seems it was just corrupted vp's.

does turey's installer send the vp's via UDP?
