I have this idea for a campaign that I though I would run by a few people.

Ok, here it is:

During the Battle of Capella, at the time of the supernova, some ships manage to time their subspace jumps into the supernova, but in subspace.  That way, the worst of the shockwave misses them, and they come out insystem.  Then, the scattered survivors, from GTVA fighters to derelict NTF Destroyers, must unite from whatever their backgrounds and try to find a way back home through the nebula and beyond.

I have a mission all but done, and another in the works, but I figured I'd get some feedback before finalizing.

It sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't think there were any NTF destroyers remaining by the supernova, other than that it sounds good. However I imagine after a supernova the whole of Capella would be a nebula.....and from what Petrarch says, Shivan infested.

Exactly why I posted it here.  Needed to find the problems with the idea itself first.  nix the destroyer, that can come from anywhere (besides, I say derelict for a reason  :)).  The nebula actually helps by limiting communications between the various groups, makes it harder to find them.  The Shivan infested part is actually most of the conflict of the idea.

The major problem with this from the point of view of astronomy is that the immediate aftermath of the supernova would be nearly as deadly as the event itself; the nebula would be ridiculously high energy, and therefore hot.  Not as hot as the star, naturally, since it's the same material spread over a much wider area, but certainly enough to fry ships wandering around in it.

Somebody already made a series of campaigns very much like this.  The difference is, instead of jumping within the Capella system itself, they jumped out through the Gamma Draconis node.

Hadn't thought about this one.  Okay, the weird Shivan weapon that destroyed the star sucked away enough of the mass and energy to cause the nova that the remaining nebular debris is cool enough to travel through, although combat will be more difficult.  (Hmm, maybe the shields could be protecting the ships, and when the shields go down they take constant low level damage?  That doesn't wave the fluff wand for capships though)

This is just something I was making for fun and myself, wasn't intending to release or anything.

I suppose the shields idea is viable, and you could say the heat against the surface area of larger ships is great enough to dissipate most heat combined with the strength of capship panels. Another idea I've thought of is something that went through my head as the supernova countdown flickered in front of my eyes and I felt like I was going to die during 'Apocalypse'. What if a ship inputted random co-ordinates into their subspace drive and jumped out somewhere in an uncharted system or the fringe of Capella in an effort to escape the supernova. Keep in mind ideas thought of while jamming the afterburner and maxing engines are nowhere near as good as well thought out ones

Sounds a bit like Battlestar Galactica. That's why I love this idea
Let's imagine that several civilian units including transports, gas miners and utility ships as well as some cruisers and other vessels did the same or jumped to Gamma Draconis... Small fleet of civilians (and maybe some smaller military ships like cruisers) led by alone Hecate destroyer in search of new homeworld. For me sounds very smexy ;7 Journey to the space above Knossos 3... This might be intresting. Consider my ideas ;)

That's ItDoH right there.
Except there are...several Hecates and IIRC, a few Hatshepsuts (and a Typhon).

I was thinking just a single disabled or derelict (maybe two) destroyer, smashed in previous engagements, with a couple corvettes and some cruisers.  The whole thing takes place in a nebula (or mostly in one, maybe they can find their way to Gamma Draconis and beyond), and all through the campaign, fighters trickle in to replace losses (strictly between missions after the first couple :)).  The civilians I hadn't even thought of.  OH!  They can be the ones to crew the destroyer(s) after you find it(them) drifting and abandoned because of battle damage.
