Well I went and got the game (well... "borrowed") and...

I can confirm THERE ISN'T ONE HERC II IN THAT GAME!!!!

There's two in that level! Both can be grabbed. One goes across from side to side, the other goes back and forth diagonally. I can also confirm that it is not the retail model. The ... ... O_o... thing... underneath is too short and too curved. Despite that, they are Herc IIs and even have a squad logo on them in the correct place, but I haven't paid enough attention to said squad logo... I wouldn't be surprised if it were that one person's face, though.

I could recognize it because I am a big fan of the FreeSpace Series, but I was wondering why there's a ship from that game flying around while I'm terrorizing a city...

We actually have that in as a homage; it should be close enough for people to recognize, but far enough from the original to avoid copying it outright.
