Cant believe I'm posting this.

Variant of my tank meant for SPACE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Alex Heartnet for the idea. For FS it would be armed with four Subach HL 7s and two missile launchers, it would be a heavy hover tank meant to operate in zero gravity environments such as asteroids, planetoids, moons and the like, would also serve as a mobile defense turret for installations and space colonies.

Subachs are good all arounds, maxims do have that awful recoil, imagine this trying to stay in place in the platform and fighting the recoil of the maxim.

Well, it's considerably heavier then most fighters, so it will probably handle the recoil better.

Besides, the recoil won't be an issue if you aren't the one flying it 

I propose an artillery variant.  4 Maxims + long-range variant of existing Hornet, Harpoon and Cyclops missiles.  Or Trebuchets.  This way the range of its weapons will distinguish it from a normal bomber.

Just how large is the tank supposed to be? If I recall correctly, most Freespace ships barley fit in a US Aircraft Carrier, having anything other than Subachs and some weaker than rockeye missiles seems... overkill.

Yes, thats something I considered, isnt a fighter in FS supposed to be huge? I made this as a heavy tank, something considerably bigger than a modern mbt but a space fighter should be a bit bigger in scale.
