Hey everyone longtime Freespace fan here. I stumbled across this site and was amazed at the graphical changes the coders made to this game. Truly awesome work! It forced me to buy FS2 for GOG.com.

Anyways, I started my download and went to bed. When I got up this morning I received this message...

C:\Users\sauron\Downloads\setup_freespace_2(2).exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

What does this error message mean and what steps do I need to take to resolve it?

Thanks!

Sorry, but that is an error you need to take to the GOG people. We can't help you with that, I'm afraid.

Hmmm good point. I was just wondering if anyone else had come across that error.

Yep. They have. Over on the GOG board. My only suggestion at this point would be to use the other download method GOG offers (IIRC, there are two), and see if that works better.

The second download method would be the direct GOG download, right? The one that uses Adobe AIR runtime?

Not knowing what the first method you used was, I'd say yes.

Yeah my first method I just downloaded using my browser.

Windows usually puts a (2) after something if there is already a file with that name, right?  Why did this file get named setup_freespace_2(2).exe?  Unless you did that on purpose, I'm guessing it may have tried to download twice?  Just be sure to check your download directory (c:\users\sauron\downloads) and see if there is a file called setup_freespace_2.exe already there... if not, well, re-download using the Adobe AIR method.

If the Adobe one is the same one they use to distribute trail versions, then it's very capable. Allowing download resumes.
