BBC sci-fi miniseries (or TV shows)
I recall seeing a really good one made a while ago called "Invasion: Earth" about these Nth dimensional aliens coming to Earth to assimilate our bio matter or something like that. Anyone have any other recommendations?

I remember that. In the late 90s UK's Channel 4 did a series called Ultraviolet that was by Stephen Moffat (The guy now in charge of Doctor Who) which had a new and interesting take on Vampires. Also by moffat, the Modernised Jekyll series (a modern Jerkyll & Hyde story) was frankly awesome. Plus it had Denis "Wedge" Lawson in it. Finally the recent Torchwood mini-series was fantastic.

Finally the recent Torchwood mini-series was fantastic.

Was it? I didn't find it that compelling myself. Perhaps because my two favourite characters were both no longer in the show.
It was decent though.

Dr Who and its ITV rival Primeval deserve a mention.

On a more fantasy note BBCs Merlin series wasn't too dreadful either.

Wow, just finished with Torchwood and holy ****. The first season was just soso, but the last two (especially the third one) I just couldn't stop. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into the others.

I second the Ultraviolet recommendation BTW. :) Very cool and it managed to be somewhat ambiguous about the vampires motivations too.

Merlin was pretty decent, and chicks seem to dig it.  I cringe every time they start waving swords around though (and luckily sword play isn't the major point).  I never understand why they bother with fancy fake choreography when the actual thing is many order of magnitudes better to watch.  I would be extremely impressed if a show or movie ever bothered to implement half sword in an armored situation.
